Let’s have a fun collection of interesting tidbits I’ve come across in the past few days today. Hopefully there will be something in here that you enjoy!
If you have time today, there are still two great conferences going on that are streaming interviews and speakers live on the web. The first conference is the Exponential Conference, designed for church planters, taking place in Orlando. You can watch it here. Still to come: Francis Chan, Craig Groeschel, Dave Ferguson and Matt Chandler. (Follow the twitter feed at #exponential09)
The second conference is is the Gospel Coalition National Conference. Yesterday I heard Tim Keller and bits of Mark Driscoll on there. There’s another full lineup of speakers today. You can watch that at Christianity.com’s website here. (Follow the Twitter Feed at #gcnc09)
This week Catalyst launches their first ever Catalyst West conference. I don’t know yet if they will have any live streaming, but they did at Catalyst East so I’m hopeful. Catalyst also launched a great partnership yesterday with Leadership Journal. They have launched an online digital magazine Called Catalyst Leadership Digital. As with everything else Catalyst does, great graphics and design mixed with top-notch content.
My friend Jenni Catron, executive Pastor of Cross Point Church in Nashville, posted some great questions to help focus your thinking about life and ministry on her blog this week. You can read them here. Somehow her post came at just the right time to help me focus a few thoughts here at the crazy Saunders household. Jenni and I met at the Q conference last year, a conference which is going on without us in Austin, Texas. Maybe next year!
Jeremy tells me that Starbucks is planning to sell the Playing for Change DVD and CD sometime this summer. Apparently at the Starbucks convention this year some of the street performers provided the musical entertainment. Can’t wait to hear more from these guys!
Yesterday I listened to Stephen Furtick’s sermon series on James. I wanted to share two tidbits that made me think. He shared mainly on the topic of temptation in the sermon I listened to yesterday. Here’s the first thought that intrigued me:
If you haven’t had a head-on collision with the devil lately, it might mean you are traveling in the same direction!
Secondly, he was sharing the strategy for dealing with temptations. “If you know that God is not in this thing,” he said, “Then get the hell out!” Before he got called on the carpet for poor language he reminded his congregation that the lies represented by temptation come straight from the pit of hell. You don’t want that in your life. Good thought, and a memorable one at that.
Finally, I”m keeping my eye on the Origins Project. Go read about it. It sounds interesting and I sure love their core team and creative team!
