Living in the village at the edge of nowhere

This is where David and I are hanging our hats yesterday and today. Not our usual haunts! But I have to tell you, these people have the concept of community and Third Place down pat. Community Centers, pools, villages and care facilities. All in the middle of NOWHERE! I was writing an imaginary blog post in my mind about the journey from the highway to the village: it takes 45 minutes. For the first 14 I thought “Not bad…nice and genteel country. After that it was just real country. The kind that isn’t quaint and isn’t picturesque. Just country. Then after that? Nothing. Until you suddenly hit this Advent Christian Village in the middle of nothing. But the people here have been amazing, and I can see my mom happily wandering around the campus like an overgrown college student wandering away from her dorm. Oh the stages of life…

Starbucks Via, by the way, has saved this trip. I suppose it goes without saying that there is not a decent coffee shop on campus. I saw one in town, however, that I’m going to try to hit tomorrow. In the meantime, Starbucks’ new instant Italian Roast, Via, has been more than adequate.

Now I’m off to more senior adventures.
