David and I are hanging out in Orlando at a Generous Giving Conference. Last May we began this journey with Christ Fellowship (our church), really digging into the joy God has for us in giving. Tonight the conference kicked off with Bob Coy, the Pastor of Calvary Chapel in Fort Lauderdale. Here are the highlights of his message.
- You know what it means to give, but do you know what it means to truly surrender?
- 10% is expected, but it is the unexpected that really blesses God. When was the last time you decided to “impress” God with your giving…just because?
- The principle of reciprocity begins with sacrifice and ends with provision. In other words, God begins providing when we begin giving. And God will only ask for something you love: God asked Abraham for Isaac, his one son. God doesn’t usually ask for something you don’t want or care about!
- This is the battle of MINE. Whose is it anyway? You will be asked for something you love. But you can have the “stuff” and not have substance; you can have cash and not have character.
- Why does God ask us to sacrifice? It isn’t for him, it’s for us! We’re told to “lay up treasures for ourselves.” We give it and God adds it to our accounts!
- If you aren’t receiving the provision, check to see if you are making the sacrifice.
- My platform can be used to accomplish more if I am willing to give more. You will get to tell a story! God is waiting — just waiting — to give you a story. He is looking for hearts that are completely his.

I loved the part where God is waiting to give us our own cool story. As a Christian I think that is everyone’s dream. To have your personal testimony be a powerful story that gets told again and again, inspiring others to move forward in faith towards their own wonderful story.
It really does come down to the story, doesn’t it. On day two, which I haven’t put up yet, they took on the topics of fatherlessness and adoption. I was so glad to have a small part of the story in that issue!
